Living in Troy, Ohio

Miami County
The Great Miami River Recreation Trail runs along the levee in Troy. Treasure Island Park has a boat ramp, an amphitheater, kayak and paddleboat rentals and trail access, Paul G. Duke Park has a prairie, and Brukner Nature Center has hiking trail. Miami Shores Golf Course is a city-owned Donald Ross design. The Troy Strawberry Festival fills downtown and the levee the first weekend of June, with 2026 as its 50th year, and the WACO Annual Fly-In comes to WACO Field in September.

The Public Square
The historic district around Main and Market, on the National Register since 1975: Late Victorian commercial blocks around a roundabout and a fountain. The district runs a block north to Water Street, west to Cherry, south to Franklin and two blocks east to Mulberry. The Troy Historic Preservation Alliance is documenting an expansion of the district. Troy Main Street programs the square: Taste of Troy in May, free Fridays on Prouty concerts at Prouty Plaza through the summer, Christmas on the Square (November 21, 2026) and the Grand Illumination tree lighting (November 27, 2026).
Miami County Courthouse
Beaux-Arts, by Columbus architect J.W. Yost, finished 1888. The dome is visible as you come into town.
Troy-Hayner Cultural Center
301 West Main Street, Mary Jane Hayner's 1914 Romanesque mansion, now a free community arts center with the Fulker-Nichols Gallery, a ballroom concert series and events on Prouty Plaza.
Overfield Tavern Museum and the Mayflower
The Overfield Tavern is an 1808 log building, the oldest in Troy, run as a museum. The Mayflower at 9 West Main is a 1928 vaudeville house reopened as a cocktail lounge and live venue, so check what's on before you go.
Treasure Island Park and the river
On North Elm Street, on the Great Miami: an accessible boat ramp, an amphitheater with a summer concert schedule, kayak and paddleboat rental, and direct access to the trail on the levee. Float Troy, run by the city, rents floating tents on the river for overnight stays. Smiths' Boathouse is the restaurant on the water on North Elm.

The Great Miami River Recreation Trail is paved, part of the Miami Valley's paved trail network, and runs along the levee top through Troy. The Miami County Park District maintains the stretch outside the city and lists parking lots on Dye Mill Road and SR 202. The long-term plan links Shelby County to the north with Montgomery County to the south.
Hobart Arena and the Troy Recreation Department
City-owned, with a renovation and expansion finished in 2017. Home ice, concerts and events. The Recreation Department also runs the Troy Aquatic Park, an outdoor pool complex with water slides.
Paul G. Duke Park and Robinson Reserve
On the north side: soccer fields, pickleball courts, baseball diamonds, a basketball court and a football field, with Robinson Reserve's restored prairie, new trees and a path attached. A redesign with new diamonds, soccer and football fields, parking and concessions is planned. The city has many parks in all.
Miami Shores Golf Course
Municipal, 18 holes, a Donald Ross design.
Lincoln Community Center
On Ash Street, a membership-based non-profit with a heated indoor pool, an indoor track, a fitness floor and classrooms.
Brukner Nature Center
Hiking trail and a wildlife rehabilitation center, on Horseshoe Bend Road west of the city. It carries a Troy address but sits in the township.
WACO Air Museum
1865 South County Road 25A, at WACO Field. The Waco Aircraft Company built its biplanes in Troy, and the museum has a theater inside a replica CG-4A glider (opened 2015). The annual Fly-In ran September 17 to 20, 2026, with vintage WACOs, rides, a car show and a gala.
Troy Strawberry Festival
The first weekend of June across downtown and the levee, run by the Troy Area Chamber of Commerce as a fundraiser for local non-profits. The 50th ran June 6 and 7, 2026. The strawberry doughnuts are the signature item.

The historic core. 19th- and early 20th-century houses with character and charm on Market, Main, Franklin, Water, Mulberry and Cherry around the Public Square. The Public Square district itself is commercial; Hobart Circle is the city's National Register residential district.
The Hobart steel houses. Hobart Brothers, the welding company founded here (the arena and the Hobart Institute of Welding Technology, 1930, carry the name), had an offshoot that prefabricated 22 all-steel houses in Troy from 1932 to 1941. Sixteen survive on the National Register (listed 1989), nine of them in the Hobart Circle Historic District on Hobart Circle and Hobart Drive, in Georgian Revival, Dutch Colonial, Cape Cod and Moderne styles.
1970s. Subdivisions on the south and west sides, Foxchase Court among them: four-bedroom houses from 1978.
1990s to 2010s. Kensington (Edinburgh Drive), Stonebridge Estates, Kings Chapel, and the Girard and Gearhardt Lane streets. Four bedrooms and two and a half baths.
